okay, i won’t lie — this documentary fucked with my head pretty hard… despite overall thinking “this woman is a mess and she clearly dropped her ally card,” i kept falling into a “oh wow, no, she really isn’t that bad, she really has taken a lot of time and effort to educate herself, etc. etc.” . Also, i am married to a very butch woman — i came to bed that night going “damn, my head is a MESS now, because if Rachel Dolezal can’t be black, how can trans women be women?” And even my wife admitted she’s spent years trying to wrap HER brain around this, too (with a lot of educated study and debate behind it). Honestly I’m still trying to wrap my brain around all this but in the meantime, I just wish someone like Dolezal could just take a step (or 300) back a bit, but it’s like a mental illness or something.
